General Membership Meeting

There were 52 people present at the February Membership meeting.  This was a very good turnout for the membership meeting. Come out to support YOUR club!

This is a reminder to all members. The bar is closed on meeting night from 7:30 PM until the completion of the membership meeting. If you can’t get to the meeting on time then you will have to wait until the meeting is over to get a refreshment.

6th Annual Wild Game Dinner for 2010

Plans are now finalized for the 6th Annual Maybee Sportsman Club Wild Game Dinner that will be held on February 27, 2010.  The doors open at 5:00 PM. Tickets are sold out.  There were 150 tickets available for the dinner.  The cost is $30.00.   Donations of wild game are still being taken for the next dinner.  Venison or Elk quarters work well for the food preparers.  We are looking for Venison, Elk, Rabbit, Pheasant, Squirrel, Duck, Goose, Salmon, Wild Boar, Bear, Etc.  We are also looking for door prizes for the dinner.  Anything in the way of sporting goods items or outdoor items would be appreciated.  Contact Mike Jaworski at 734-587-2997 if you would like to donate wild game or any door prizes.  Mike needs about 12 to 15 people to help out with the dinner on Saturday night. Give Mike a call if you can help.

30-3D Archery Shoot At Maybee Sportsman

There will be a 30-3D Archery Shoot (Travel League) at Maybee Sportsman Sunday March 14th from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Help is needed Saturday March 13th for setup from 12:00 Noon until done. Help is also needed Sunday during the shoot and at the end of the shoot to pick up the targets and put them away. Steak Roast March 13th   

James Vincent, James Vincent jr. and David Vincent will host the March 13th Steak Roast. Help is always needed. 80 steaks will be purchased for the next dinner.  Everyone is invited out to have a good time. The February 13th steak roast was hosted by Paul and Clyde Adkins and Martin Okkerse. The February dinner was sold out with 100 dinners sold.  Thanks to Paul and Clyde Adkins and Martin Okkerse, and all of the other helpers that made the February steak roast a success.  The cost of a Steak Dinner is now $13.00.  If you can host a Steak Roast or wish to help with one, please contact Dennis Williams @ 734-467-5282 and let him know that you would like to help out.  If you are bringing a large group to the steak roast, contact Dennis Williams and let him know so that he may get extra steaks.  Come out and support YOUR club! 

Varmint Shoot March 6th                  

The Varmint Shoot will be held March 6th at 10:00 AM.  Sign in from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.  Center fire starts shooting @ 10:00 AM.  Contact Tom Gray @ 734-439-1976, Dave Rochon @ 734-461-6090 or Dennis Sisung @ 734-654-9747 for more details.

Chili Cook-Off February 20th

The Chili Cook off for 2010 was held February 20th.  The judging was very close but 1st place was won by Dennis Williams, 2nd place by Jim Hatchard and 3rd place by Tony Grant. All of the chili was excellent. There were 10 entries in this years cook off. The judges had a very hard time picking a winner.

MCCC Traveling Trap League

The Maybee Sportsman Club is now in 8th place in the MCCC traveling trap league. Only a miracle will bring us back from this disaster.  Our next shoot is March 14th at Carleton.  Come out and shoot to have a good time.

Annual Carlton Beer Shoot March 20th

The annual beer shoot against Carleton Sportsman Club will be held Saturday March 20th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Maybee Sportsman Club.  For details, contact Doug Gilson @ 734-645-5231.  Come out and shoot for the Maybee Sportsman Club.  The losing club pays for the beer!  Shoot good to help keep the “losers” trophy where it belongs at Carleton Sportsman Club.

Concealed Pistol License Class March 20th    

There are still openings for the concealed pistol license class to be held on Saturday March 20th and Sunday March 21st at the club.  You must attend both days to get your certificate. Saturday the 10th will be classroom instruction from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday the 11th will be live fire on the range from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You MUST own your own pistol to take this class.  The cost is $100.00 for non-members of the Maybee Sportsman Club and $50.00 for members of the Maybee Sportsman Club.  A simple lunch will be available for a fee. 30-3D Archery Traveling League

The Archery Traveling League will shoot at Dundee February 28th and April 25th, Maybee Sportsman March 14th and June 6th, Monroe Rod & Gun March 21st and August 1st, Carleton Sportsman May 16th and August 15th, and Canvasback gun club April 11th and May 2nd. Military Rifle Shoot Saturday March 13th

The next Military Rifle Shoot will be held Saturday March 13th at 4:00 PM until finished.  Starting in December, and for the months of January, February, and March, the Military Rifle Shoot will be held at 3:00 PM the 2nd Saturday of the month before the steak roast.  Watch the calendar for any change in dates or times.  The fee for the Military Rifle Shoot is $5.00 for club members and $6.00 for non-members with prize money paid.  Any Military Rifle is allowed.  The rifle used must be stock, open sights, and unmodified. We shoot 20 rounds of rifle and 5 rounds of handgun. The handgun must be stock with open sights and may be any caliber. Handgun is 5 shots @ 25 yards. Rifle is 10 rounds@ 50 yards and 10 rounds @ 100 yards on the rail or prone. Audit Committee

An audit committee was formed to audit the books from 2009. The committee finished their audit and all of the books were in good shape.  The audit committee will attend the March Directors meeting to make a few recommendations to make next years audit run smoother.

4H Junior Travel Trap League

The 4H Junior Travel Trap League will shoot at Dundee Sportsman Club, February 27th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. They will shoot at Tri-County Sportsman Club, March 13th at Brest Bar Sportsman Club, March 27th at Carleton Sportsman Club, and April 24th is the banquet and fun shoot at Monroe Rod & Gun.

NRA Range Safety Officer Certification Class

If enough interest is shown in taking the NRA Range Safety Officer Certification Class, Donn Wobser will make arrangements to set up a class. For more information, contact Donn Wobser at 734-269-6394.

Welcome new members

We would like to welcome 2 new Associate members and 4 new junior members to the Maybee Sportsman Club.  They are junior members Rachel Fox, Sarah Fox, Alexis Hatchard, and James Hatchard and associate members Mark Plansinis, and Jason Thornell.  Come out, meet the members, and participate in club activities such as Archery, Trap, Varmint League, and our famous Steak Roast Dinners.

Sponsoring New Members

When you sponsor new members, remember the dues are $80.00 per year and the initiation fee is $100.00 (NOTE THE NEW RATE) ($180.00 total).  Make sure their money is included with their application and that the prospective new members know that they MUST WORK their hours the first year of membership. Applicants for Associate membership should show up at the meeting when they are being voted into the club or have a good reason why they can’t be there.
